Bariatric Surgery
A Lifesaving Path to Weight Loss & Wellness
At Hopeful Counseling we help patients achieve lasting weight loss and improved health through safe, effective bariatric surgery options. If you’ve struggled with obesity and related conditions, we are here to guide you toward a healthier future.
What is Bariatric Surgery?
Bariatric surgery (weight loss surgery) alters the digestive system to help patients lose significant weight by:
Reducing stomach capacity (restrictive procedures)
Limiting calorie absorption (malabsorptive procedures)
Combining both approaches for optimal results
These procedures also improve or resolve obesity-related conditions like:
✓ Type 2 diabetes
✓ High blood pressure
✓ Sleep apnea
✓ Joint pain
✓ Heart disease
Types of Bariatric Surgery We Evaluate for:
1. Gastric Sleeve (Sleeve Gastrectomy)
Removes ~80% of the stomach, leaving a "sleeve"
Reduces hunger hormones (ghrelin)
Average weight loss: 60–70% of excess weight
2. Gastric Bypass (Roux-en-Y)
Creates a small stomach pouch and reroutes intestines
Limits calorie absorption
Average weight loss: 70–80% of excess weight
3. Adjustable Gastric Band (Lap-Band)
Inflatable band placed around the stomach
Reversible and adjustable
Average weight loss: 40–50% of excess weight
4. Biliopancreatic Diversion with Duodenal Switch (BPD/DS)
Combines sleeve gastrectomy with intestinal bypass
Highest weight loss potential (80–90% excess weight)
Recommended for severe obesity (BMI >50)
